Semester at SDSU Program

Want to take courses at San Diego State University without going through the admissions process? With Semester at SDSU, you can enroll in more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate class sections at SDSU. You can earn credits that will appear on an official SDSU transcript and easily transfer to other universities. You can also choose from a variety of certificate programs while earning college credits.

 
Intensive English

Immerse yourself in the English language through SDSU’s Intensive English programs. These programs can help you improve your "real language" communication skills, learn about American people and culture, and practice your English in natural situations both on and off campus.

 
University Pathway

Planning on attending a college or university in the United States? Our University Pathways programs can help you acquire the tools you need to succeed at San Diego State University or elsewhere. You’ll also prepare for TOEFL and IELTS exams, as well as your upcoming GRE or GMAT exam for those pursuing an MBA or master’s degree at an American University.

 
Teacher Training

SDSU's American Language Institute (ALI) has been training teachers of ESL/EFL since 1981. The Teach English as a Second Language/Teach English as a Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL) program is a 130-hour certificate program that helps novice instructors prepare to successfully live and teach English overseas.

Customized Programs

SDSU Global Campus offers a variety of customized certificate programs in areas such as Business English, Social Entrepreneurship, Teacher Training for International Programs, and English for Communication. We are also proud to host students chosen for the prestigious Fulbright Program. Brief details of each are provided below.

International Business English Certificate
The International Business English (IBE) program is a customized, certificate program designed for students and professionals with intermediate to advanced English- language proficiency who are interested in learning more about American Business practices as they relate to business around the world.

Social Entrepreneurship Certificate
The Social Entrepreneurship (SE) certificate program is designed for students with at least high-intermediate English-language proficiency. The courses focus on solving social problems by using creative entrepreneurial skills. SE students learn about problems in society, current business trends, and innovative social entrepreneurships. They also gain the knowledge, tools, and language resources necessary to create a business that would positively affect social change for the future. Opportunities outside the classroom incorporate field-trips and volunteering with local social enterprises.

Fulbright English for Graduate Studies Program
This three-week pre-academic program is offered to incoming Fulbright foreign students. It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs as part of its Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. Teacher Training for International Programs Certificate
The Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate program is designed to prepare international instructors to teach English using English overseas. This program combines curriculum on effective teaching methodologies for EFL courses, with observations of ESL/EFL courses. Opportunities for mentorship also available.

Intensive English for Communication Certificate
The Intensive English for Communication (IEC) certificate is customized for international students and professionals who want to develop and refine their practical English skills. The curriculum focuses on improving reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
