SDSU's Sustainable Tourism Management Certificate is available through ALI's Semester at SDSU program.

Tourism is the world's largest industry and is expected to generate $7.5 trillion dollars by 2020 (World Tourism Organization). Tourism is a challenging and innovative business that offers students a world full of exciting career opportunities.

From eco-adventures to cultural travel, the emerging field of sustainable tourism applies a triple-bottom-line approach to hospitality and tourism management to account for the interactions between economic, environmental, and social components of the industry. SDSU's Certificate in Sustainable Tourism trains new leaders in this growing field. Students in this interdisciplinary program will learn the tools they need to plan and manage a sustainable tourism business.

(one semester – available fall or spring)
RTM 305 – Wilderness and Leisure Experience
RTM 404 – Cross-cultural Perspectives of Tourism
RTM 470 – Global Travel and Tourism Management
RTM 284 – Supervised Fieldwork

Level II Certificate – 12 units
(available spring only, Prerequisite – successful completion of the Level I Certificate)
RTM 477 – Tourism Planning (only offered during spring semester at this time)
RTM 487 – Environmental and Cultural Interpretation
RTM 498 – Internship in Recreation and Tourism Management (may be taken for 6–12 units)

Students must receive a C or higher in each course to receive a certificate at the end of the program.

TOEFL 61, IELTS 5.5, or Duolinguo 90. Proof of English proficiency is required with application. For Duolingo, please have your test score sent to "San Diego State University - Global Campus". Other acceptable English proficiency can be found HERE.
