Executive Director’s Corner

Greetings from San Diego State University’s American Language Institute!

Summer session has come to a close and new and returning ALI students have arrived for the Fall term. This is one of my favorite times of year as SDSU is also starting, and the campus is alive with students excited to be begin the Fall semester! New construction was recently completed, and there is now a full grocery store on campus, making it convenient for students who live in SDSU housing or close by. They have also opened new restaurants in this area which are all very close to the ALI offices and classrooms.

Our team is always thinking of ideas and ways to better serve our students and partners. We know that there are many international travelers who would like to take ESL courses while visiting beautiful San Diego. Beginning Fall B, we are offering morning classes, Monday through Thursday, for those on B-1/B- 2 tourist visas. The online application for this course is available now!

We have a unique Semester at SDSU Certificate in Business Engineering available now that provides students with the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of how business and engineering fit together. Applications are now open for Semester at SDSU for Spring 2018, as are all the programs we offer. The online application will be available soon for Summer and Fall 2018.

One thing I would like you to know about when preparing students for their time here is how important it is for them to have a personal email. Once they arrive, they will want to use the SDSU wireless network for their phones, tablets, and laptop computers. In order to do this, they will need a personal email where the password to access the network can be sent. This will help to make the start of their program much smoother.

With the beginning of the Fall semester, our team is preparing to visit with as many of you as possible. Starting next month, we will be going to Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Just a reminder, if we aren’t able to visit with you, you can email or call anytime. As I always like to remind you, we really do enjoy hearing from you!

A grocery store on campus, new restaurants, classes for travelers on visitor visas, and an exciting new Certificate offering! I hope you are as thrilled as we are when promoting ALI programs! We look forward to meeting your students and continuing to work with you.
